With the rise of gas prices, grocery bills through the roof, and utility skyrocketing vacations are out of the picture.
With that, a fun staycation works just fine. With living in Pittsburgh — there are so many great free activities to enjoy, while also using the T that is cost-effective or using a parking garage a little further and walking.
We have a season pass to our local amusement park Kennywood. The pass also allows us to visit their other parks; Sandcastle, Idlewild, and SoakZone. So our staycation will consist of visiting these places while packing lunches, snacks, and drinks in a cooler in the car.
Besides visiting amusement parks, taking a hike or two would be great. There are several hiking spots we have yet to explore in Pittsburgh. I’d like to add a couple to our list to visit, especially ones with waterfalls.
With lockdown, we couldn’t go anywhere, which means a lot of museums and aquariums did virtual tours. Virtual tours are still online; several are free, while others have a small fee. Doing a couple of art gallery tours, looking at dinosaurs, or even swimming with the fish would be great.
Another way to make the staycation a little more fun is sleeping in the yard in a tent. We did this last year, and we enjoyed the experience I’d like to do it again this summer. Also, sleeping in a fort in the living room is something we did at the beginning of lockdown it would be fun to bring it back for a week.
All in all, staycations can be fun, cost-effective, and memorable. Just have to plan one out! I’m looking forward to our staycation this summer.
