Spring: the return of mosquitoes, pollen in the air & a spike in sales for allergy companies.
No, but seriously, spring is okay. We spring forward, the sunshine is back, which means we can leave our caves and enjoy the outdoors again.
Taking a Walk
I know you can take walks in any season, but spring is officially the time you can leave your house without five layers.
The wind no longer hurts your face or turns it bright pink. The sidewalks aren’t full of snow, ice, or salt. It’s just a sidewalk. Plus, you get to enjoy the beauty of flowers growing before they spew their pollen all over you.
Fish Fry Season
One of my favorite parts of living in Pittsburgh is that in the spring, everywhere you go on Fridays, there’s a fish fry! I love a good piece of fried fish with a side of fresh-cut fries.
Working Outside
It’s officially the season when you can take your laptop & head to a park, restaurant, or cafe to work.
Sit for an hour or two and enjoy the sunshine while getting things done. No more sitting inside wishing you were outside. Also, come on, who doesn’t like a nice lunch beer on a patio while working?
Hershey Park Is Open
One of my favorite places in the world is Hersheypark. Ride roller coasters, visit the animals at ZooAmerica, enjoy Boardwalk Fries & consume all types of sugar while walking around the park.

PNC Park Visits
I’m not a big baseball fan, but I go to PNC Park to eat multiple food! Fresh French fries & ice cream out of a plastic Pirates hat. I also love the Great Pierogi Race! I know everyone loves Jalapeño Hannah, but I’m always rooting for Cheesy Chester.
PNC Park also has the best views. Going to an evening game to catch the sunset and the vibes is such an experience. Let’s be honest, no one goes for the Pirates; they’re terrible.

Porch Sitting
It’s officially the season to sit outside; not just in public, but at home! Sit in a lawn chair, crack open a beer & enjoy a fire in the evening. You can finally eat outside again. Neighbors are out walking, heading back to their porches, sharing music & joining each other for porch sitting.

Rain Walks & Muddy Puddle Jumping
I love warm spring rain. I like having the windows open to hear it fall. Walking around in the rain is calming in a way that’s hard to explain. Even better is putting on your rain boots & jumping in muddy puddles. What’s more fun than jumping into a giant puddle & watching the water splash everywhere?
I’m not a fan of the 3 weeks of non-stop rain though!
Farmers Market Season
Spring means farmers markets are back! I love farmers markets because you can buy fresh produce, snacks, desserts & handmade products from local businesses. You get to discover new vendors & try all kinds of different foods.

Backyard Party Season
It’s the official start of backyard party season. Everyone is coming out of hibernation; hanging patio lights, fluffing up outdoor pillows, & firing up the grills.
Friends come together for drinks, food, music & laughs. It’s that time of year when you can hang out without the obligation of holidays. No being stuck inside people’s houses & the dogs can run free.

Visiting the Point State Park Fountain & North Shore
Take a walk to Point State Park to visit the fountain or walk across the bridge to the North Shore. At the fountain, you can watch the rivers come together as the water sprays high into the air. My favorite time to visit is in the evening, when you can see the sunset, the fountain lights turn on & boats cruising by.
You can enjoy the view not only from the fountain, but also from across the river on the North Shore while having a picnic or sitting on the water steps. It’s a fun, relaxing experience.
This list was a little hard to put together since spring is my least favorite season. The weather is incredibly unpredictable; sometimes worse than winter. At least in winter, you get snow. In spring, it rains for days on end & if it’s not raining, it’s flower reproductive goo everywhere, causing nonstop sneezing.
But in the end, it’s not that bad with the right allergy medication & proper rain attire. Being able to leave the house without the air actively trying to kill you is nice. The sunshine is back; well, for the most part. Pittsburgh is still a pretty cloudy place.
Anyways, what are your favorite parts about spring? Have you ever made a Spring Bucket List?
