You Should Be Using Rakuten

This post has the option to listen instead of reading.

Everyone is trying to save, earn cash back & make money any way they can right now. Which is exactly why you should be using Rakuten!

Rakuten is a site where you can sign up for an account so that when you shop online, book trips, order food, visit restaurants, or shop in-store, you earn cash back.

For online shopping, it’s as simple as going to Rakuten.com, finding the store you want to shop at, checking their current cash back rate (and any available coupons) & then starting your shopping.

Once you’ve completed your shopping trip & checked out, you’ll receive an email from Rakuten letting you know your cash back is pending. Cash back can take anywhere from 1 day to 12 weeks to be credited, depending on the retailer, the category you shopped in, and the current deals.

I’ve learned that larger retailers like Crocs, Lowe’s & AT&T do tend to take a bit longer to process cash back.

One nice thing about Rakuten is that they often offer higher cash back during holiday sales. For example, both times I had to purchase a new washer (due to moving), Rakuten offered double cash back for Presidents’ Day & Labor Day sales.

I was also able to use my 20% off Lowe’s moving coupon during their holiday sales, along with credit card cash back. At the time, PayPal was offering 5% cash back, while Chime was offering 2%.

You have to stack those savings; especially in this day & age when we’re all trying to stretch our dollars.

When I’ve purchased new phones or watches through AT&T, I’ve stacked their promotions as well. For example, if I bought a specific phone, they offered an extra $50–$100. One time I purchased a new Apple Watch & Rakuten gave me $100 for opening a new watch line.

Stack Those Savings!

Not only does Rakuten offer online cash back and promos, but they also offer in-person shopping and restaurant rewards. All you have to do is link the card you plan to pay with to your Rakuten account, and you can earn anywhere from 2–5% cash back. This is perfect if you frequent certain places often.

One of my favorite places to go in Dormont is McFland’s. They have great happy hour specials & daily food deals, like 50¢ wing nights on Wednesdays. I have my credit card linked & Rakuten provides 5% cash back on every check. No extra steps required. On top of that, my Chime card is currently offering 5% cash back on restaurants as well.

In the end, if you aren’t using Rakuten & stacking those savings, you’re missing out.

The only downside I see is that Rakuten doesn’t pay out cash back immediately. They only cash out four times a year. That said, it’s not the worst thing & it’s always nice to have cash back to look forward to!
