This is holiday advice I’d like to give.

Take it with a grain of salt and a shot of tequila, but here is my advice.

If you don’t want to, don’t. If you don’t want to spend the money, don’t.

Life is way too short, and the world is on fire anyway. Don’t make yourself more uncomfortable than it needs to be.

You don’t want to visit the family members who tell you to lose weight or ask when you’re going to get married or have a baby. Don’t do it. Your mental health comes first. Say no, say this does not fit with my mental health. If you don’t want to, don’t. If you don’t want to spend the money, don’t.

You don’t have the money to spend on a gift for someone who won’t appreciate it! Save the money.

Feel like buying yourself gifts instead of buying gifts you feel obligated to buy? Don’t buy yourself that gift you want. Want to donate that money to a charity of your choice instead? Go ahead — those people will appreciate it more.

Don’t feel like sending holiday cards to those you haven’t talked to all year, don’t. Send them to those who you talk to, or don’t send them at all. Send a festive Bitmoji on Christmas or Hanukkah instead.

In the end, just learn to say no. I know it’s hard, it’s super hard. But, it feels SO GOOD when you stop doing things that don’t benefit you. Your life, mental health, body, etc.

So this holiday season makes the holidays about the people who you care about and who care about you. Because that’s what the holiday is about, caring about those who care about you.
